Safety precautions when using sandpaper

Sandpaper is an abundant take to make all sorts of projects. It’s useful for sanding away rough spots, removing old paint and for creating proper conditions on a surface for the application of paint or stain. But always remember, safety is important when working with Sand Paper.

ALWAYS wear SAFETY GOGGLE and protection gloves when use the sandpaper.

This means some goggles to keep flying bits away from your eyes, a mask to keep your lungs as dust-free as possible, and gloves for rough surfaces. You'll also want to wear long sleeves and pants that can protect your skin from scratches.

Avoid accidents by maintaining a clean, clutter-free work space.

Before you even begin sanding, remove anything that might trip you up. You should also put plenty of light in which to work, to ensure that you can see what you are doing. You might help avoid accidents by keeping your area clean.

Properly perform to prevent injury.

For hook and loop sandpaper, use smooth, even strokes. Do not push too hard or sand too quickly, as this may damage your muscles. When you do take a break, rest and drink water to prevent dehydrating. Sanding is made easier, and it’s safer when the right technique is applied.

Do not operate a sandpaper near flammable substances.

Sandpaper makes sparks, so be cautious about what you are sanding near. Don’t use it in the vicinity of something like paint thinner, gasoline or oily rags. Work only in a well-ventilated area, and have a fire extinguisher handy, just in case.

Keep the sandpaper tucked away in a secure location so it can’t get damaged.

When you're done using the sandpaper, store it in a cool, dry, and safe area. This will also help it survive longer. You can store sandpaper in a toolbox or a drawer, or even in a plastic bag that will keep it clean. Maintain your shop’s sandpaper and you’ll save some money and won’t purchase it as often.
