types of sandpaper

Sandpaper is a material used to smooth something out when it is rough! There are various kinds and grades of sandpaper, and you want to know for which job you use what kind. In this tutorial, we will talk about sandpaper and the 125mm sanding discs.

Sandpaper consists of very small particles that lessen any surface roughness. They are called abrasive particles, and they are available in different sizes known as grit sizes. They can range from fine to coarse (grit size) Higher grit number means smoother finish. As an analogy, 400 grit sandpaper is going to smooth things out a much better than 60 grit sandpaper.

Choosing the right sandpaper for the job

When selecting sandpaper for a project, consider the surface you’re sanding. For wood, a medium-grit paper such as 100-150 works well. For more delicate or metal surfaces, opt for a finer grit size of around 200–300. Begin with a coarseness of grit to file away rough spots and then go to a finer grit for smoothness.
